"It was New Year's Eve and I wanted her to get a taste of how expansive the world really is compared to suburbia. So we took a trip out to the rolling terrain of Kansas—in the open range—climbed a hill so she could see as far as her eyes could see. I got the feeling we were both envisioning New Year possibilities."

What do you love most about puppies?
"They're so roly-poly and sweet. I love how they climb on top of each other and fall asleep on top of each other. It's adorable how they're going full speed one minute and are zonked out the next. I adore their little grunts and squeaks."
